AND a BBC News shout out!
We’re delighted to share that Capital Sky has been featured on BBC News as work advances on the Power Court Stadium in Luton, the future home of our partner Luton Town Football Club. This national media recognition highlights one of the most significant construction and regeneration projects in Bedfordshire currently, and reinforces our mission to deliver a long-lasting impact here in the region we call home.
The article confirms that piling, which is a crucial stage in creating the deep foundations for this iconic new 25,000-seat stadium is now underway. This phase alone is expected to span more than two years, laying the groundwork for the stadium that will shape Luton’s sporting and economic future.
This is a moment of immense pride for our team here at Capital Sky. The planning and groundwork carried out to reach this milestone has involved nearly 18 months of continuous effort, showcasing the scale and complexity of such a transformational project.
As our Managing Director, Martin Maloney explained to the BBC: “We have a main sewer which serves 10,000 homes to move – more complex, maybe, than expected as we were again given inaccurate information, always a problem with underground work on an old site.”
We’ve been discussing this at length, (obviously) here at Capital Sky, and we truly understand that this has the potential to have an enormous local impact in Luton, with the opportunity for everyone involved to work extensively on a, quite literally, once-in-a-generation development. How often does a football institution redevelop their stadium? Not often, is the very simple answer.
Our work on Power Court is already supporting hundreds of jobs, and with the project expanding, local employment opportunities will continue to grow. During the early phases, more than 100 workers have been involved, and that number is projected to rise as work accelerates.
As Martin continued in his interview with the BBC: “We’re employing people from the local area. And it’s not just for the short term. We’ve taken on seven apprentices and trainees this year, and we’ll be taking on more.”
Wherever possible, we are creating a knock-on effect that benefits Luton’s workforce and local economy. This focus also extends to nurturing emerging talent, particularly through our apprenticeship programmes. Over the past year, we have welcomed numerous apprentices into our team, working alongside our experienced professionals on-site to gain real, hands-on experience on major UK-wide projects. This kind of skills development is crucial for the future of the sector and for young people in the region who are seeking meaningful careers. That’s something we take immense pride in, and take very seriously.
(To find out more about our apprentice programmes, reach out to us via our contact page at www.capitalsky.uk or email recruitment at admin@capitalsky.uk )
Our ongoing work in the local area is also further supported by us recently being accepted into the Bedfordshire Chamber of Commerce, a membership that strengthens our connections to the wider business community and reflects our commitment to regional collaboration and economic growth.
And finally, as the Principal Partner of Luton Town Football Club, we’re deeply honoured to play such a leading role in a project that will redefine the town’s skyline and the club’s future. A new football stadium always represents excitement, regeneration and community pride, and to be honest, we’re loving the collective ambition being shown by every party involved to keep the project moving on schedule, and with our (multiple award-winning) health and safety protocols on display, front and centre, we’re a very proud bunch of folk.
Here’s to the next chapter for Luton, and to building it together.
