National Apprenticeship Week is a moment to celebrate opportunity and ambition, and the importance of learning your trade ‘on the job’. Here at Capital Sky, it’s also a chance to reflect on something that we take extreme care to place amongst our top priorities: investing in people and building futures from the ground up.
We understand that our industry depends on the next generation of skilled professionals coming through. For us, apprenticeships are a long-term commitment to nurturing local talent, developing careers and strengthening our community. We support people early, develop their skills properly, and help them build sustainable careers.
It also means we can look our team members in the face when we speak about recruitment, as their children, family members or friends have a real opportunity to build a long-lasting career with us, regardless of what they are studying. In fact, and we see this a lot, how many of us, let’s say 35 years old or over, knew exactly what we wanted to do for a living at the age of 16, or even 19? Apprenticeship programmes can create clear career pathways and produce skilled, young professionals.
We are proud to currently have seven apprentices across the business, each at different stages of their early career. It’s very clear to see that every one of them represents potential, dedication and a place in the future of our sector.
Our very first apprentice, Mason, is a perfect example of what’s possible when opportunity meets determination. Mason joined Capital Sky as a Groundworker Level 2 apprentice, gaining hands-on experience on site and building his understanding of the industry from the ground up. Today, he is still very much a part of the Capital Sky team and has progressed into a Quantity Surveyor Level 2 apprenticeship role. His route so far reflects exactly what apprenticeships should offer: progression, development and a planned-out future within a supportive company.
At the other end of the scale, we are delighted to welcome our newest apprentice, Darragh, who has recently joined us as a Civil Engineering apprentice. His arrival is another reminder that the appetite for careers in construction and infrastructure is very strong, and that it is our responsibility as an employer to provide the right environment for talent to flourish.
Our commitment to apprenticeships extends beyond our own workforce. As the official headline sponsor of the upcoming Luton Apprenticeship Awards, we are proud to champion apprentices, employers and training providers across the town. Supporting the awards is a natural extension of our belief that apprenticeships are vital to the future of Luton’s economy and the wider construction industry.
Here’s a soundbite: At Capital Sky, we actively invest in developing talent. We provide real on-site experience, mentorship from experienced professionals, and the opportunity to grow within a business that values ambition and hard work.
As we mark National Apprenticeship Week 2026, we also want to open the door to the next generation.
So, if you are interested in starting a career in construction, civil engineering or the built environment, we encourage you to express your interest and visit our Careers page to find out more about current opportunities and how to apply.
This is how we strengthen our workforce, by developing talent properly and giving it room, and time to grow.
