Sometimes, a story you hear sits much closer to home than others. Callum is a life-long friend of a senior member of the Capital Sky team, and Callum and his family are currently facing an incredibly difficult period as he waits in hope to receive a liver transplant.

Callum was born with biliary atresia, a very rare liver disease. At just five weeks old, he underwent a Kasai procedure and since then has been regularly monitored at King’s College Hospital, where his family had seen him doing well on occasion despite his condition.

More recently, however, Callum has been diagnosed with further complications. His condition is now attacking his body and he is in and out of hospital, taking medication to help keep him stable while he sits on a liver transplant waiting list. Unfortunately, there is no cure for his current condition other than a transplant, and the uncertainty of waiting for that procedure is something no family should have to face.

Tomorrow, Saturday 19 September, Callum’s family and friends will take on the Snowdon Watkin Path to raise money for the liver transplant team at King’s College Hospital, who have been caring for Callum, and many others facing similar circumstances.

Among those taking part will be a member of the Capital Sky team, who will be making the climb with his nine-month-old child in support of his close friend.

Callum has three children, two little girls and a little boy, and behind the medical treatment, hospital visits and uncertainty, he is nothing but brave and resolute for his young family who are waiting for him get better.

There is a fundraising page which already has over a hundred donors; a testament to the generosity of everyone who has supported it so far, but there is still an opportunity to help Callum, and others.

The money raised will support the liver transplant team through King’s College Hospital Charity, with the family specifically identifying the Listen Fund D2173, which supports the liver transplant service.
