Capital Sky is proud to celebrate a major milestone at the St John’s Dirac Building in Cambridge, as the project reaches its Topping Out stage.

Working as a specialist subcontractor to principal contractor VolkerFitzpatrick, Capital Sky has played a significant role in the delivery of the project from its earliest stages through to the completion of the reinforced concrete frame and superstructure.

Our comprehensive package of works has included demolition, enabling works, groundworks, substructure, superstructure, Section 278 works and the reinforced concrete frame, together with the delivery of high-quality exposed concrete finishes to the lift shafts and stairwells.

The Topping Out marks a defining moment in the construction programme, signifying that the building’s primary structure has reached its full height. For Capital Sky, it represents the culmination of an extensive and technically demanding phase of works, delivered through careful planning, close coordination and the continued commitment of our teams on site.

To mark the occasion, senior members of Capital Sky and VolkerFitzpatrick joined the project team to celebrate the achievement and recognise the collective effort behind this important milestone.

Central to Capital Sky’s successful delivery has been the leadership and commitment of our senior site team. Jon Hurd, Project Manager; Frank Corduff, Project Lead; Damien Johnson, Groundworks Foreman; and Paddy McHale, Carpenter Foreman, have each played a key role in driving the project forward. Their experience, leadership and attention to detail have been instrumental in coordinating our works, maintaining high standards and supporting the site teams throughout each stage of this challenging and technically demanding project.

This achievement is equally a reflection of the dedication and expertise of the wider Capital Sky team, including our engineering team, machine operatives, groundworkers, carpenters and all site personnel whose skill, commitment and teamwork have been fundamental to the successful delivery of the works. From setting out and technical coordination through to excavation, concrete works, formwork and day-to-day site operations, every member of the team has made an important contribution to reaching this milestone.

From the initial demolition and enabling works, through the groundworks and substructure, to the progression of the reinforced concrete frame, each stage has contributed to shaping the building now standing on the Cambridge skyline.

Particular care has also been taken in delivering the exposed concrete finishes to the lift shafts and stairwells, where quality, consistency and workmanship are integral to the final architectural finish.
